Bio
Recruited from Mitcham in a rare mid-season transfer, Paddy Gilchrist arrived at Victoria Park as a twenty-year-old captain who wasted no time establishing himself in the senior lineup. The clever roving forward debuted in Round 13 of 1910 and immediately held his spot, capping off a remarkable rookie season by kicking a vital goal in Collingwood's premiership victory over Carlton. Renowned for his sharp "football brain" and ability to execute difficult screw kicks and snapshots under pressure, he maintained an impressive goal-per-game strike rate throughout his brief tenure. Gilchrist featured in a second consecutive Grand Final in 1911 but drifted out of the league after just four seasons, departing to captain-coach Ferntree Gully before serving in the trenches of France during World War I.
