Bio
A foundation player for Fitzroy, Paddy Noonan established himself as a tenacious small rover during the VFL's formative years. He was a key member of the Maroons' 1898 premiership side, though injury cruelly denied him a place in the club’s back-to-back triumph the following season. After a brief hiatus, Noonan resurfaced at Carlton in 1901 for two seasons before cementing his legacy in the VFA with North Melbourne. There, he captained the "Shinboners" to premierships in 1903 and 1904—the latter shrouded in controversy when he refused a mid-match boot inspection—and returned decades later as the oldest first-time coach in VFL history to lead North’s 1929 campaign.
