Bio
Recruited from the goldfields city of Ballarat, Pat Bourke arrived at Melbourne as a mature-age debutant, playing his first game at 26 years of age in 1921. Operating primarily as a ruckman, he quickly established himself in the senior side, playing 12 games in his first year and proving to be a capable follower. Despite a promising start, his VFL career was ultimately brief; after adding another seven games in his second season, he was cleared back to Ballarat in early 1923. Bourke's short tenure was typical of many country recruits of the era who tested their mettle in the city for a few seasons before returning to the bush.
