Recruited from North Carlton, Pat Descrimes secured his place in history as a member of Fitzroy's inaugural VFL side in Round 1, 1897. A versatile utility capable of doing the hard yards as a follower or pushing forward to hit the scoreboard, he became a reliable component of the Maroons' early dominance. His short career was defined by impeccable timing, featuring in the club's back-to-back premierships of 1898 and 1899. While he played as a follower in the 1898 decider, his spot in the 1899 Grand Final side came via a late call-up to the half-forward flank, replacing teammate Bert Sharpe who withdrew due to a family bereavement. Descrimes hung up the boots after the 1900 season, leaving the game with a remarkable strike rate of two flags from just four seasons.
