Stats
Bio
Recruited from the industrial ranks of Port Melbourne Railways United, Pat Maloney was a hard-working half-forward who played during a tumultuous era for the St Kilda Football Club. He arrived at the Junction Oval in 1914, just as the clouds of the Great War were gathering, and established himself as a regular contributor in the Saints' forward line. His career momentum was stalled when St Kilda withdrew from the VFL competition for two seasons (1916-1917) due to the conflict, forcing Maloney and his teammates into a lengthy hiatus from top-level football. He returned to the fray when the club re-entered the league in 1918, helping to stabilise a struggling side that often found itself near the bottom of the ladder. Maloney retired after the 1920 season, having served as a loyal bridge for the club between the pre-war and post-war eras.
