Bio
Recruited from St Kilda CBC, Patrick "Spud" Murphy joined Hawthorn during the club's difficult formative years in the VFL competition. A solid utility player who stood 178cm and weighed 81kg, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior lineup, managing just seven appearances across the 1927 and 1928 seasons as the Mayblooms fought to establish themselves in the league. Following his departure from Glenferrie Oval, Murphy continued his football journey in the VFA with Brighton before eventually moving to the country to captain-coach Bacchus Marsh in 1932. His service extended beyond the football field, as he later enlisted in the Australian Army during World War II.
