Bio
Selected by the Brisbane Lions with pick 28 in the 2010 National Draft, Patrick Karnezis was a silky medium forward known for his strong overhead marking and natural goal sense. He showed immediate promise in Queensland, maintaining a better than a goal-a-game average during his three seasons at the Gabba, though he often found himself caught between being a deep forward and needing to build the tank for a midfield role. Citing homesickness, Karnezis requested a trade back to Victoria at the end of 2013 and joined Collingwood in a direct swap for Jackson Paine. Despite strong form at VFL level, he struggled to cement a spot in the Magpies' senior 22, with concerns often raised regarding his defensive pressure and running capacity. Unable to replicate his early potential at his second club, he retired at the end of 2015 aged just 23, stating he had lost the passion required to compete at the elite level.
