Bio
Recruited from the Goulburn Valley, Paul Bell was a standout talent for Shepparton who initially trialled with Richmond before finding his home at the Junction Oval in 1937. He maintained a challenging arrangement during his brief VFL career, commuting from the country to play for St Kilda rather than relocating to Melbourne. A pacy forward with genuine speed—evidenced by his victory in the 1938 Shepparton Gift—he was an efficient scorer who booted 20 goals in just 15 senior appearances. After returning to the bush to coach his home club, Bell joined the Second AIF as a commando; tragically, he was killed in action in Borneo in 1945, standing as one of ten St Kilda players to make the ultimate sacrifice during the Second World War.
