Bio
Recruited from East Fremantle with the second overall pick in the 1999 National Draft, Paul Hasleby made an immediate impression on the competition, gathering 30 disposals on debut and subsequently securing the 2000 AFL Rising Star award. While he lacked the raw speed of many modern midfielders, Hasleby compensated with elite handballing skills, exceptional vision, and a fierce appetite for the contest, quickly establishing himself as a premier clearance specialist. His consistency was formally recognised with All-Australian selection in 2003, a season in which he played a pivotal role in propelling Fremantle to their first-ever finals series.
Hasleby developed a reputation as a big-game performer, particularly in Western Derbies against West Coast, where his ability to influence the contest saw him claim the Ross Glendinning Medal four times. His career faced a significant hurdle when a knee reconstruction forced him to miss the entire 2008 season, but he successfully returned to the senior lineup for two final campaigns to finish with over 200 games. He retired in 2010 as a loyal one-club player, regarded as one of the most decorated and reliable midfielders in the Dockers' history.
