Bio
A mature-age ruckman originally recruited from Redland in the NEAFL, Paul Hunter exemplified persistence throughout a career defined by patience and late opportunities. After spending four seasons on Adelaide's rookie list (2016–2019) without managing a senior debut—despite strong form in the SANFL where he played in the 2019 Grand Final—he was delisted and moved to South Adelaide. His AFL lifeline unexpectedly arrived in early 2021 when St Kilda, facing a ruck availability crisis with Rowan Marshall and Paddy Ryder, signed him during the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection period. A competitive and physical tall who relied on strength in the contest rather than athletic dynamism, Hunter finally made his debut in Round 1 of that season at age 28. He served as a stopgap option in the ruck for seven games before being delisted by the Saints at the end of the year, ultimately returning to state league football.
