Bio
Recruited from Sandhurst in the Bendigo Football League, Paul Hurst was a pacy, left-footed utility who established himself at Carlton as a running defender and wingman. After a severe ankle injury interrupted his debut season and cost him a place in the 1970 flag side, he returned to fitness and played a key role in the club's 1972 campaign. He is best remembered as the 19th man in the Blues' 1972 Premiership team, taking the field during the highest-scoring Grand Final in VFL history. Seeking greater opportunity after struggling to retain a regular spot in Carlton’s star-studded lineup, Hurst crossed to Melbourne in 1975, where he notably booted his first career goal on debut after 53 scoreless games for the Blues. He served the Demons as a versatile depth player for three seasons before finishing his playing days in the VFA.
