Bio
Originally hailing from Mildura, Paul Prymke took a scenic route to the AFL via the SANFL, where he tasted premiership success with Woodville-West Torrens before Melbourne selected him in the 1993 Pre-Season Draft. Arriving at the Demons as a ready-made key defender, he made an immediate impact at Centre Half-Back, claiming the club’s Best First Year Player award and finishing third in the Best and Fairest the following season. Standing 194cm, Prymke was a formidable pillar in defence who appeared destined for a long career as a club stalwart, earning high praise from captain Garry Lyon. However, his professional tenure was tragically cut short by a debilitating back condition—often cited as chronic rheumatoid arthritis—which restricted him to just a handful of appearances after his breakout seasons and forced him to retire prematurely in 1997, leaving him as one of the Demons' great "what if" stories of the 1990s.
