Stats
Bio
Recruited from Princes Hill, Paul Schmidt established himself as a dangerous half-forward for the Blues, becoming one of the club's most reliable avenues to goal in the late 1930s and early 1940s. A prolific scorer who could turn a match in a short burst, he topped Carlton's goalkicking for three consecutive seasons and famously booted 11 goals in a single game against St Kilda in 1941. Schmidt was a key member of the 1938 premiership side that broke a long drought for the club, cementing his place in Blues history. His VFL career was heavily impacted by the Second World War, which saw him miss the entire 1943 season due to military service before he eventually left Victoria to captain-coach Devonport in Tasmania.
