Bio
Selected with pick 23 in the 2006 National Draft from Woodville-West Torrens, Paul Stewart developed into a versatile utility who offered Port Adelaide flexibility at both ends of the ground. After debuting in 2008, he initially settled into a defensive role, where his strong overhead marking and size allowed him to play on a variety of opponents. However, his career was frequently interrupted by shoulder and hip injuries, preventing him from cementing a permanent position in the best 22 for extended periods during his early years.
Stewart produced his best football during the 2012 season, where he was swung forward to great effect, showcasing his ability to hit the scoreboard while applying defensive pressure. Despite this breakout year, he returned to the periphery under coach Ken Hinkley, often serving as a depth player who could plug holes in defence or attack when required. He demonstrated significant resilience to fight his way back into the side repeatedly, eventually reaching the 100-game milestone in his final season before being delisted at the conclusion of 2016.
