Bio
Emerging from the Hawthorn juniors in the metropolitan competition, Percy Abercrombie was a rover who experienced a journeyman's career across multiple states. After failing to secure a permanent spot in Essendon's lineup during the 1903 season, he crossed to South Melbourne in 1905 where he found greater continuity, playing 12 games in the red and white. His football path subsequently led him to Western Australia, where he became a key contributor for South Fremantle and the Goldfields side Railways, before concluding his time in the state leagues with Brighton in the VFA. While his VFL tenure was brief, Abercrombie's standing in history is defined by his extraordinary service in World War I, where he was awarded the Military Cross for charging a machine-gun post and capturing fifteen prisoners in France.
