Bio
Recruited from Cockatoo in the Dandenong Ranges, Percy Appleyard was a rover who struggled to cement a regular spot in the South Melbourne senior side during the late 1950s. Despite spending four seasons at the Lakeside Oval, he managed only sporadic appearances, debuting in 1957 but often finding himself on the fringe of selection. A capable goal-kicker when given the opportunity, he drifted in and out of the lineup, notably missing the entire 1959 season at senior level before a brief resurgence in 1960. Appleyard eventually departed the VFL scene after a short career as a depth player during a lean era for the club.
