Bio
Recruited from the VFA side West Melbourne, Percy Howard was a goal-kicking forward who made a brief but productive cameo for the Demons during the VFL’s second season. He made an immediate impression by booting a goal on debut in a comfortable win over Carlton in Round 2, 1898, and maintained a strong strike rate with four goals from just five senior appearances. Howard’s time at the top level was unusual in that he reportedly represented his original VFA club during the same winter, taking advantage of the fluid permit rules of the late 19th century. Despite his ability to hit the scoreboard, his VFL career was short-lived, and he drifted out of the Melbourne side before the season concluded.
