Bio
Originally hailing from the Warrnambool region, Percy Martyn entered the VFL as a high-flying forward renowned for his spectacular marking and expert place kicking. He briefly represented St Kilda before crossing to Richmond, where he quickly became a focal point in attack, topping the club's goalkicking in 1913 and becoming the first Tiger to boot 30 goals in a season. In a rare move for the era, Martyn transferred to Essendon mid-way through the 1915 season, a switch that marked a significant turning point in his playing style. He successfully reinvented himself as a steadfast defender for the Same Olds, displaying a consistency in the backline that eventually earned him Victorian state selection in 1920. His football journey continued well after his VFL days, as he moved to Tasmania and captain-coached North Hobart to a premiership.
