Bio
Born in Flemington, Percy Speakman was a centre half-forward who joined Richmond midway through their inaugural VFL campaign in 1908. Standing 179cm—a significant height for a key position player in the Edwardian era—he made his senior debut in Round 12 against Fitzroy. While his VFL career was fleeting, restricted to just four games, Speakman demonstrated genuine ability by booting three goals against powerhouse Collingwood at Victoria Park in only his third appearance. He departed the club at season's end to find greater continuity in the VFA with North Melbourne, where his form warranted selection for the Association's representative team against South Australia. Speakman eventually moved into country football, taking up a coaching role with Ballarat.
