Bio
A local product who became a centrepiece of the Maroons' golden era, Percy Trotter was a flamboyant and highly skilled forward who entertained crowds during the early 1900s. Renowned for his aerial prowess and deadly accuracy near goal, he was the prototypical sharpshooter of his day, capable of turning a match with bursts of brilliance that often bordered on the spectacular. His offensive output was instrumental in Fitzroy's back-to-back premiership triumphs, particularly in 1905 when he capped off a premiership year by topping the VFL goalkicking table.
Despite his dominance, Trotter's time at the top level was surprisingly brief. Just a year after his goalkicking peak, he departed the VFL at 23 years of age to pursue footballing opportunities in Sydney with East Sydney. While his career was cut short by this interstate move, he remains remembered as one of the most potent forwards of the federation era, having played a decisive role in establishing Fitzroy as a powerhouse of the competition's first decade.
