Bio
Recruited from Balmain in the Victorian Metropolitan Football League, Percy Yates was a defender who made a brief cameo for Collingwood during the tumultuous, war-torn 1916 season. Born in Bendigo, he was called up to a Magpies side struggling for numbers during the league's four-team competition, playing two consecutive matches in Rounds 4 and 5 before disappearing from the VFL scene. While his own career was limited to just those two senior appearances, Yates holds a significant place in Collingwood history as the patriarch of a genuine club dynasty. He was the elder brother of Stan Yates, who played for the Pies immediately after the war, and the uncle of 1958 premiership wingman Ken Turner. His family legacy extended even further through Ken's son, Jamie Turner, who became a premiership player for the club in 1990.
