Bio
Recruited from North Heidelberg in the Diamond Valley Football League, Peter Johnston was a tall forward prospect who broke into the Fitzroy senior side as an 18-year-old. Standing 191cm, he showed immediate promise during his debut 1977 season, booting nine goals in six games and presenting as a capable marking target inside 50. However, his opportunities to cement a spot were severely limited by the strength of the Lions' key position stocks, particularly with the arrival of Bernie Quinlan and the dominance of full-forward Bob Beecroft. After spending the entire 1978 season in the reserves and managing just two final senior appearances in 1979, Johnston departed the VFL scene, remembered as a backup tall who was squeezed out of a high-quality forward line.
