Bio
Recruited from St Kevin's Old Boys in the VAFA, Peter Bennett broke into a powerful Hawthorn lineup in the mid-1970s, quickly finding himself part of the club's golden era. He is best remembered at Glenferrie Oval for his role in the 1976 Premiership side, where he started on the bench before joining the fray in the Grand Final victory over North Melbourne. Despite this early ultimate success, Bennett found it difficult to cement a permanent position in the Hawks' star-studded midfield and crossed to Essendon for the 1978 season in search of regular senior football. He found a more consistent niche at Windy Hill, utilised primarily as a wingman and half-forward who provided run and linked play between the arcs. Bennett served the Bombers for four seasons, playing 59 of his 80 career games in the red and black before retiring at the conclusion of the 1981 season.
