Recruited from local club East Brighton, Peter Burns was a lightly-built utility who progressed through St Kilda’s Under-19 program to earn a senior call-up in the late 1950s. Standing just 175cm, he was often undersized against VFL opponents but relied on his mobility to compete at the top level. He made his debut in 1959 for a solitary game and added three more appearances the following season, kicking two career goals during his brief stint in the seniors. Unable to cement a regular spot in a Saints lineup that was slowly building towards a more competitive era, he departed the club at the end of 1960 and continued his football journey in the VFA with Moorabbin, Brighton-Caulfield, and Sandringham.
