Bio
Recruited from Brentwood, Peter Carter was a lightly-built utility who spent the majority of his VFL career on the fringe of senior selection at South Melbourne. Despite debuting as an 18-year-old in 1977, he struggled to command a permanent spot at the Lakeside Oval, managing just ten games over four seasons before falling out of the senior rotation entirely in 1981. As the Swans began their turbulent relocation to the Harbour City, Carter remained in Victoria and crossed to Collingwood for the 1982 season in search of a lifeline. He famously made just one senior appearance for the Magpies—booting a goal in a Round 9 clash against Hawthorn—before eventually departing the top level to forge a successful tenure in the VFA with Port Melbourne.
