Bio
Born in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp in Bandung, Indonesia, Peter Castrikum traversed a remarkably unique path to the VFL after his Dutch family emigrated to Australia in 1954. Recruited from Melton, the 183cm utility broke into the Footscray senior lineup in Round 4 of the 1965 season, making his debut against St Kilda. He retained his spot for six games that year, playing primarily as a kick-first operator who averaged over 10 disposals a match, but he ultimately could not secure a long-term tenure at the Western Oval. Castrikum remained a respected figure within the football community until his passing in 2015 following a brave battle with Motor Neurone Disease.
