Recruited from the Ovens and Murray League club Yarrawonga, Peter Clancy arrived at the Junction Oval in 1956 as part of the significant list overhaul orchestrated by incoming coach Alan Killigrew. A medium-sized forward standing 177cm, Clancy was immediately thrust into the senior side during a period where the Saints were desperately seeking to shed their reputation as the competition's easybeats. He proved to be a handy acquisition near the goalface, averaging almost a goal a game across his two seasons, including a productive debut year where he featured regularly in the forward pocket and half-forward line. Despite his solid contributions during this transitional era, Clancy's VFL tenure was brief, and he departed the club after the 1957 season as St Kilda continued to aggressively reshape its squad towards a more competitive future.
