Bio
Born David but universally known as Peter, Cook was a tall utility recruited from Yallourn in the Latrobe Valley. He caught the eye of Melbourne recruiters after dominating a practice match at centre half-forward, earning an immediate contract despite initial resistance from his home club. Joining the Demons at the absolute peak of the Norm Smith dynasty, Cook faced the unenviable task of breaking into a lineup that claimed three consecutive premierships between 1955 and 1957. While he managed 14 senior appearances as a versatile key position option, he largely served as depth for the powerhouse squad, notably featuring in the club’s 1956 Reserves premiership side. Unable to cement a regular senior spot amidst the club's "Golden Era" stars, he was eventually cleared to coach Warrnambool in 1959.
