Bio
Born in Broome but recruited from the Yarra Valley side Woori Yallock, Peter Daniel arrived at Windy Hill in 1968. He initially made his mark as a capable forward, breaking into the senior side in 1969 to finish as the club's third-leading goalkicker with 32 goals, a return that included two bags of six. Despite this offensive promise, the coaching staff converted him into a key defender the following season, handing him the unenviable task of manning the goal square against legendary full-forwards like Peter Hudson, Alex Jesaulenko, and Doug Wade. Daniel proved up to the challenge, relying on his strong overhead marking and discipline to become a reliable full-back for the Bombers throughout the early 1970s.
Daniel reached his 100th game in his final appearance for Essendon in 1974 before moving to Tasmania to accept a captain-coach role with North Launceston. This move sparked a legendary coaching career in the Apple Isle, where he steered the club to five premierships and a period of sustained dominance. His leadership extended to coaching Tasmanian representative sides and a brief stint in the WAFL with Subiaco, eventually earning him induction into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame. In recent years, he has also been recognised as the father of former foreign correspondent and federal politician Zoe Daniel.
