Bio
A standout defender from Subiaco, Peter Eakins arrived at Collingwood with a formidable reputation after sharing the 1969 Tassie Medal as the best player at the National Carnival. His move to Victoria Park was immediately headlined by controversy, as his lucrative signing fee unwittingly sparked a preseason strike by established stars Des Tuddenham and Len Thompson who demanded pay parity. Distinctive with his shock of blond hair, Eakins was a dashing backman known for his strong marking and booming kick, quickly cementing a spot in the side to play at full-back in the famous 1970 Grand Final against Carlton. Despite being named the club's best first-year player, his VFL career was ultimately curtailed by persistent injuries, restricting him to just 32 games before he returned to Western Australia and retired prematurely at age 26.
