Bio
Peter Featherby was a prolific ball-winning centreman whose VFL career was distinguished by his extraordinary ability to accumulate possessions and his elite distribution by foot. Originally a star for Subiaco in the WAFL, he first crossed the Nullarbor to join Footscray in 1975, where he immediately displayed his capacity for finding the football. However, after two seasons at the Western Oval, he returned to Perth, spending 1977 and 1978 dominating the WAFL before Geelong enticed him back to Victoria as a mature-age recruit for the 1979 season.
At Kardinia Park, Featherby played his best football, becoming the linchpin of the Cats' midfield during a competitive era for the club. Despite lacking blistering pace, his reading of the play was exceptional, allowing him to register massive statistics that remain significant decades later. His accumulation skills were best illustrated in a 1981 match against Melbourne at the MCG, where he gathered 51 disposals and set a VFL/AFL record with 43 kicks in a single game. He represented Western Australia with distinction in State of Origin football and remained a key contributor for Geelong until his return to Subiaco in 1984.
