Bio
Recruited from Oak Park, Peter German established himself as a dangerous goal-kicking rover and midfielder for North Melbourne during a transitional era for the club. Making his debut in 1984, he quickly became a vital component of the Kangaroos' engine room, renowned for his ability to push forward and hit the scoreboard. His return of 201 goals from 185 games—averaging better than a goal a game—highlighted his offensive threat, a trait that made him a constant headache for opposition defenders who could not afford to let him run loose.
German's consistent form was rewarded with selection for Victoria in 1991, cementing his status as one of the competition's reliable small men. While he was a key figure at Arden Street for over a decade, his timing proved unfortunate; he retired at the end of the 1994 season, just two years before the club's premiership triumph in 1996. Despite missing out on the ultimate success as a player, he left a legacy as a dedicated one-club servant who helped build the professional standards that fueled the Kangaroos' golden era, before embarking on a long and successful career in coaching.
