Recruited from Pascoe Vale in the Essendon District Football League, Peter Halsall was a rover who briefly broke into the Carlton senior side during the 1978 season. Standing at 179cm, he made his debut in Round 4 against Richmond and immediately hit the scoreboard, kicking a goal in his first outing. He repeated the feat the following week in a victory over Geelong, securing a unique statistical legacy of kicking a goal in every game he played at the highest level. Despite his accuracy, Halsall found opportunities scarce in a Carlton squad famously deep with small midfielders and forwards—the beginning of the club's "Mosquito Fleet" era—and he left Princes Park with just the two senior appearances to his name.
