Family

Recruited from Oakleigh, Peter Welsh established himself as a resilient utility during Hawthorn's golden era in the 1970s. Primarily operating on the wing or across the half-back line, he became a dependable contributor in John Kennedy's system, playing a vital role in the Hawks' 1976 and 1978 premiership victories. Despite his success at Glenferrie Oval, Welsh sought a move to Richmond, a transfer that proved complicated and resulted in him sitting out the entire 1979 season while the clubs wrangled over his clearance.

When he finally arrived at Punt Road for the 1980 season, Welsh made an immediate impact, slotting seamlessly into the Tigers' lineup to secure his third premiership medallion in the club's dominant Grand Final win over Collingwood. His ability to adapt to various roles and his defensive accountability made him a valuable asset for Tony Jewell, allowing him to become one of the few players of his generation to win flags at two different clubs. Welsh remained with the Tigers until his retirement in 1984, finishing his career as a highly respected three-time premiership player.
