Bio
Recruited from local club Deer Park, Peter Welsh made his senior debut for Footscray as a 17-year-old in 1968. A versatile utility who spent significant time on the wing and half-forward flanks, Welsh possessed the durability to remain a mainstay in the Bulldogs' lineup for over a decade. His ability to drift forward and hit the scoreboard saw him contribute nearly 100 career goals, providing valuable support to the team's key forwards throughout the 1970s.
Welsh was a key component of the Footscray side that experienced a resurgence under coach Billy Goggin, featuring in the club's 1974 and 1976 finals campaigns. While often operating in the shadow of higher-profile teammates, he provided essential stability and run during a fluctuating era for the club. He retired at the end of the 1978 season as a distinguished one-club player with over 150 games to his name.
