Peter Joseph Doyle

Recruited from Union as a highly rated teenager with a top-tier draft pick, Peter Doyle endured a frustrating start to his career, serving a long apprenticeship in the reserves at Carlton during the early 1990s. Unable to crack the Blues' powerhouse senior lineup, he was delisted without a debut but found a lifeline when Fitzroy selected him in the 1994 Pre-Season Draft. A 179cm utility capable of filling holes in defence or the midfield, Doyle finally made his long-awaited senior debut late in the 1995 season. He became a regular contributor during the Roys' tumultuous final year, battling admirably in a side that was often overwhelmed by heavy defeats. While his career was brief, Doyle holds a unique place in football history as a member of the final 22 to represent Fitzroy, taking the field in the club's heartbreaking last match against Fremantle in 1996.
