Bio
Recruited from Golden Point in the Ballarat Football League, Peter Kiel burst onto the VFL scene with one of the most impressive debut seasons in St Kilda history. The versatile utility immediately endeared himself to the Moorabbin faithful, winning the club's best and fairest award in his rookie year of 1982—a rare feat that highlighted his initial impact as a ball-winner who could drift forward and hit the scoreboard. However, Kiel found it difficult to replicate that dazzling maiden campaign in subsequent years, eventually reinventing himself as a disciplined defensive tagger to maintain his spot in the senior side. After parting ways with the Saints at the end of 1986, he was thrown a lifeline by Melbourne, where he experienced the early high of a Night Series premiership during the pre-season. His senior opportunities at the Demons proved scarce, limited to a solitary appearance against the Brisbane Bears in Round 5, 1987, before he retired midway through the season to return to country football.
