Bio
Recruited from Longford in Tasmania, Peter Knights burst onto the VFL scene as a teenager in 1969 and rapidly developed into one of the league's premier aerialists. Best known for his high-flying marking ability at centre half-back, Knights combined courage with an exceptional vertical leap to dominate the air, often launching attacks from the backline with his intercept work. His versatility also saw him utilised effectively as a forward, where his overhead strength made him a dangerous target capable of kicking bags of goals when required.
Although his career was marred by recurring injuries that restricted his continuity, Knights remained an integral component of Hawthorn's success throughout the 1970s. He played a key role in the club's 1976, 1978, and 1979 premiership victories and was recognised individually with two Peter Crimmins Medals as the club's best and fairest. A member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame and widely regarded as one of the greatest high marks of all time, Knights was named at centre half-back in Hawthorn's Team of the Century following his retirement in 1985.
