Bio
Hailing from Nyah West in the Swan Hill region, Peter Laughlin was a sharpshooting utility whose VFL career was defined by undeniable talent but limited opportunity in a powerhouse era for Richmond. The younger brother of Australian Test cricketer Trevor Laughlin, he progressed through the Tigers' Under-19s before making an impact at senior level with his strong overhead marking and reliable set-shot kicking. Despite averaging nearly two goals a game—highlighted by a six-goal haul against St Kilda and bags of five against Footscray and South Melbourne—Laughlin struggled to cement a permanent spot in a forward line that was evolving to center around Michael Roach. After playing in the 1977 reserves premiership, he fell just short of the 1980 senior flag success, playing his final VFL match late in that premiership season. Seeking greater opportunity, he crossed into the SANFL mid-1981 to join Norwood, where he flourished under former teammate Neil Balme, winning the 1984 premiership and earning State of Origin selection for South Australia.
