Recruited from Wonthaggi in South Gippsland, Peter Loughran was a lightning-quick back pocket who leveraged his background as a professional sprinter to contain opposition rovers. Standing 175cm, he broke into the Richmond side in 1959 and became a consistent defender during a lean era for the Tigers, relying on his sheer pace to close down space and rebound from the last line of defence. After five seasons and exactly 50 games at Punt Road, he left the VFL to return to the Bass Coast, where he established a significant post-playing legacy as a premiership-winning captain-coach with Inverloch-Kongwak.
