Bio
Recruited from the Wellington Juniors in Geelong, Peter Martin earned his shot at VFL level after winning a local goal-kicking competition that caught the eye of Collingwood scouts. A diminutive wingman standing just 168cm, Martin relied on whippet-like speed and evasive skills to offset his lack of size, quickly becoming a regular in the Magpies' 1901 lineup. He featured on the wing in that year's Grand Final loss to Essendon, but found opportunities scarce the following season, managing just one senior appearance in 1902 before transferring to North Melbourne in the VFA. His post-football life ended tragically when, after enlisting in the AIF at age 40, he died in 1918 from severe head wounds sustained during the Battle of Pozières.
