Bio
Recruited from Glenhuntly in the Federal League, Peter McCracken was a small utility who spent five seasons battling for senior opportunities at South Melbourne. Making his debut as an 18-year-old in 1968, he found it difficult to secure a permanent position in a midfield rotation that featured Brownlow Medallists Bob Skilton and Peter Bedford. McCracken played the majority of his football under the coaching of Norm Smith, enjoying his most consistent run of form in 1971 when he managed nine appearances and gathered respectable possession numbers on the wing and flank. Despite this brief consolidation, he was unable to hold his spot the following season and departed the VFL scene at the end of 1972 with 17 games and a single goal to his name.
