Bio
Recruited from Seymour in the Goulburn Valley, Peter O'Keefe's career at Melbourne was defined by extraordinary resilience rather than longevity. After breaking into the senior side in 1976, he was voted the club's Best First Year Player, a significant achievement given he was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery during that very season. His progress was stalled in 1977 when the illness recurred, requiring further operations and restricting him to the sidelines where he worked as a PE teacher. Although he fought his way back to add three more senior games across 1978 and 1979, the health setbacks prevented him from cementing a long-term spot, and he returned to his home club of Seymour as an assistant coach in 1980.
