Recruited from Mentone, Peter Schofield was a prolific full-forward whose unique career path traversed three league clubs and a record-breaking interlude in the VFA. He burst onto the scene at Richmond with four goals on debut to win the club's Best First Year Player award, but a struggle for consistent senior opportunities saw him involved in a rare mid-season trade to Melbourne in 1953, where he famously booted five goals in a draw against the Tigers just weeks after leaving them. Following his departure from the Demons, he spent three seasons dominating the VFA with Moorabbin, headlined by a massive 22-goal haul in a single match against Sandringham. His irresistible form earned him a VFL lifeline at North Melbourne, where he re-established himself as a dangerous key forward, topping the club's goalkicking in 1959 and featuring in the 1958 Preliminary Final side.
