Arriving at North Melbourne in 1981 with a formidable reputation, Peter Spencer was a marquee recruit from East Perth who had already secured the 1976 Sandover Medal. A highly skilled rover possessing elite vision and a sharp eye for goal, he transitioned well to the tempo of VFL football, managing a high strike rate of majors for a midfielder across his two seasons at Arden Street. Despite demonstrating the class that made him a star in the west, his tenure in Victoria was ultimately short-lived, and he returned to the WAFL following the 1982 season. Spencer went on to claim a second Sandover Medal in 1984, cementing his legacy as an all-time great of West Australian football whose brief VFL cameo offered only a glimpse of his supreme talent.
