Bio
Recruited from South Fremantle, Peter Sumich established himself as the focal point of the West Coast attack during the club's golden era in the early 1990s. A commanding full-forward with a powerful frame and strong overhead marking ability, he was best known for his booming, albeit occasionally wayward, left-foot set shots. Sumich became the first left-footer in VFL/AFL history to boot 100 goals in a season, achieving the feat in 1991, and played a crucial role in the Eagles' pioneering premiership victories in 1992 and 1994.
Despite battling injury and form issues late in his career which led to his retirement in 1998, he departed as the club's all-time leading goalkicker, a record that stood for two decades until it was surpassed by Josh Kennedy. Seven times the club's leading scorer, Sumich remains an Eagles icon and transitioned into a long-serving coaching career, holding senior assistant roles at both West Coast and Fremantle without securing a top job.
