Family

Born into Blues royalty as the son of 1950s high-flyer Keith "The Acrobat" Warburton, Peter Warburton arrived at Princes Park with a famous name and strong country pedigree from Tatura in the Goulburn Valley. Standing just 174cm, the diminutive rover faced the unenviable task of breaking into a powerhouse Carlton midfield that featured established stars like Adrian Gallagher and Trevor Keogh. He made his senior debut in 1971 under outgoing coach Ron Barassi but found opportunities scarce in a depth-laden squad destined for the 1972 premiership, managing just four senior appearances and a solitary goal across two seasons. Unable to secure a regular berth in the star-studded lineup, Warburton eventually continued his career in the VFA with Port Melbourne and Williamstown, though his family's link to the club endured through his son Brett and grandson Oliver, who both later represented the Blues at reserves and state league levels.
