Bio
Taken with pick 8 in the 2014 National Draft, Peter Wright arrived at the Gold Coast Suns with high expectations due to his imposing 203cm frame. Despite showing glimpses of his potential as a contested marking beast and part-time ruckman, he struggled to consistently command the forward line on the Gold Coast and eventually fell out of favour, failing to play a single senior game during the 2020 season. This precipitated a move to Essendon for a nominal future fourth-round selection, a trade largely viewed as a salary dump by the Suns but one that provided Wright with a fresh opportunity to fulfil his potential.
Upon arriving at Tullamarine, Wright revitalised his career, transforming from a fringe tall into a commanding spearhead. A classic key forward who uses his significant reach to dominate aerial contests and possesses a technically sound set shot, he effectively filled the void in the Bombers' attack, culminating in a breakout 2022 season where he won the Crichton Medal as the club's best and fairest. While he has faced competition for the key posts as the list has evolved, Wright established himself as a senior figure in the Essendon forward line, offering crucial structural stability and a reliable avenue to goal.
