Stats
Bio
Born in Brunswick and recruited from local side Abbotsford, Phil Busbridge was a stout defender who broke into the Collingwood lineup during the tumultuous years of the Second World War. Standing at 174cm, he was utilised primarily in the back pocket, where he played a lockdown role on opposition small forwards and helped shore up the Magpie defence. Although he managed 14 senior games between 1941 and 1943, his most tangible success at Victoria Park came with the reserves, where he was a key member of the 1940 premiership team. Like many young men of his generation, his football ambitions were ultimately curtailed by global conflict, with his VFL career ending prematurely due to his service with the Royal Australian Air Force.
