Bio
A mature-age recruit from the VFA, Phil Dunstone was given his chance at the top level during the player shortages of the Second World War. Recruited from Preston at age 28, the diminutive 170cm forward proved to be more than just a roster filler, displaying a sharp eye for goal and averaging better than a major a game during his brief stint at Arden Street. He provided a dangerous avenue to goal for North Melbourne across two seasons, but his football journey was cut short by the very conflict that had facilitated his debut. Dunstone enlisted in the RAAF and was deployed to Papua New Guinea, ending his VFL career to serve his country just as North was beginning to climb the ladder.
